We Are Off And Running!

*We are off and running and beginning to build our stamina with everything from "Reading to Self" to "Writing to Self" to  sitting still and working without chatting!  It's actually much harder than it sounds and so we're finding that everyday is getting us a little closer to our learning goals.
*It's been brought to my attention that there's a slight problem with our reading calendars.  The dates don't seem to match with any of our monthly calendars!  After a closer look, we found out that the pages that are in your homework folders are actually old, old, old calendars.  Sorry for the mix-up.  Believe it or not our whole team overlooked the problem and a few of our brightest brought that to our attention.  Just continue to mark your daily reading on the correct day and total up your minutes every week.  This should still work- just a bit confusing!
*This week our Reading Street "Question Of The Week" is "How can we achieve goals?"  We will be focusing our reading, writing, and social studies around this question beginning with the story, Kumak's Fish.
*Our "Amazing Words" this week are:  adequate, admirably, amusement, announcement, brainstorm, collaborate design, enthusiasm, funds, and rehearsal.  Try using them at home!
*We are also using our sequence writing techniques this week as we continue to write about a trying new things.  Some of our topics include, 1st rides on Wicked, cliff diving, surfing, eating a fuzzy peach, and even trying mom's surprise cooking.
*Our spelling patterns this week are words that end with er, est, ed, ing.
*We just finished up our topic on Place Value and will be starting Addition/Subtraction meanings in math.  We will be learning about the properties of addition and fact families. Please encourage your student to practice addition/subtraction facts fluency at home:)
*I am posting pictures of our self-portraits and place value masterpieces for you to browse.  Have a wonderful week.  Thanks for all you do!
