11 Year Old Writer Publishes A Book

When her mother---the ruler of Benotripia---goes missing, Roseabelle knows she'll need the help of her best friends and their combined powers to survive the perilous journey ahead of her, rescue her mother, and save Benotripia! Written by a young author, this exciting adventure story pulls you into a true fantasy world.
Last week, McKenzie Wagner, a 6th grade student at Alta View Elementary in Canyons School District, introduced us to some creative and powerful characters in her new book, Benotripia! McKenzie told us how she followed her dream of becoming an author and encouraged us to follow our dreams, as well.  The assembly was perfect for our class because we've been working on becoming better writers by adding sensory details that paint a picture in the readers mind.  Can you visualize it?

This Wednesday is our Jog-A-Thon!  We have been training and working hard so that we can be in shape and ready to run, run, run.  Please make sure that your student eats a good breakfast, wears good running shoes and if needed wears sunscreen.  We are planning on beginning our run around 9:00 a.m.  Feel free to come and cheer your student on, or better yet run alongside!

Last week students were introduced to their first "bubble sheet" test.  We took our IOWA Basic Tests. The IOWA is a statewide, norm-referenced test used to determine what children know at certain grade levels in order to adjust curriculum standards. At the elementary level, it is only administered to 3rd and 5th grade students.  This test has the ability to show how high students can perform.  Award certificates are given out nation-wide for exemplary scores in all subject areas.
