Unique Interests Benefit All Of Us

This week in Reading Street, we discussed unique interests, and how these interests can benefit all of us.  We read a biography about a man that lived through the Great Depression and the effects that he felt because of the economic loss suffered by so many.  Because of his great interest in rocks, he was able to create a new source of income that helped take care of his family.  We discussed our different interests and found out that we had a few in common.  Believe it or not, one of our students even wants to climb Mt. Everest someday!

We finished our Biography book oral reports this week, and found out that these individuals had their own unique interests as well.  Some of our favorites were Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Usaine Bolt, Abraham Lincoln, etc. Great job on the posters- they are fantastic!

We have also been writing biographies about our classroom buddies.  We sure have a lot of animal lovers, scientists, and inventors in the making!  Stop by our classroom hallway to take a peek at our great work!

We are finishing up our science unit on the moon and using our great thinking to write a narrative titled, The Diary of an Astronaut. We are writing in diary format, giving great information on our way to the moon.  Hopefully we can share during parent teacher conferences!

And, speaking of Parent Teacher Conferences, our window for conference sign-ups begins this Monday, February 11
